Wednesday

Discovery Channel and Sci-Fi ~ Oh how I love thee

The Discovery Channel never ceases to delight. It dominates our television viewing most evenings. Except on Wednesdays when it has to share the stage with Ghost Hunters which is like crack cocaine for my paranormal lovin' heart. The DVR is top of my list of things to be thankful for on Turkey Day. Now on those special Wednesdays when there is a new Mythbusters AND a new Ghost Hunters we are blissed out. Trying to decide which to savor first is difficult. We make sure there will be NO interruptions by taking the dogs out, assembling snacks and taking preemptive pee breaks.

Now, while mythbusters is one of the finest things Discovery has ever done for me....I have to also give them snaps for the new Stormchasers season. I was so happy they brought this back. I think the guy who made the "TIV" is insane and a poor engineer. BUT his insanity is my entertainment and could lead to some excellent science. Even if by accident. Personally...I'm rooting for the probes.

Discovery recently rolled out a show called Smash Lab. It was a poor shadow of an imitation of Mythbusters. The science seemed shoddy, the cast ill-informed and the entirely too "cool" to be believable. I believe it was cancelled. At least I hope it was. Now last night I viewed a new show called "Prototype This", which again seemed to be a Mythbustery knock off. BUT it was quite entertaining. The focus is on the science and not at all dumbed down. The geeks in the lab appear brilliant and genuine. The kind of doofus guys I adore and relate to. They giggle maniacally when things go well and even harder when things go wrong. Just like my beloved Mythbusters team. I think Discovery has a hit with this one. I just saw a commercial for a new Discovery show about Urban Legends like human combustion and UFO's. Is Discovery Channel reading my mind???

Monday

The Big Bang Theory

What can I say about this show? I love it more and MORE. They seem to get that there are many Geek/Nerd types and subtypes. And they have also embraced that everyone has a little geek in them. And am I on glue or is Sheldon freakishly attractive? Perhaps that is just the Geek-o-phile in me. Chuck Lorre is a genius.
Monday nights at 8 PM.
